Whew! So there you have it - our analysis of the construction and color of the VOY undershirts over the eight and a half years or so they were in use, as well as our misc. observations and oddball garments over the years.
Again, we would like to remind you that the our analysis was based on our interpretation of what the evidence appeared to us to be, and that the examples we provided and cited were only those that we deemed remarkable in some way (such as seeming to us to fit into a larger trend or have been moving in a particular direction).
For every example we cited as evidence in our analysis, there might well be dozens more in direct contradiction to our conclusions. It is entirely possible for somebody else to watch all of modern Star Trek and/or attempt to analyze the same tens of thousands of screencaps we did and reach entirely different conclusions (especially regarding color trends) than those we did - or even to simply conclude that we were seeing trends that we made up in our own heads!
After reading our VOY undershirt analysis, some of you may feel like this:
So we'll briefly summarize our conclusions for a screen-accurate men's VOY undershirt here:
* Ideal color = gray (dark gray, heather gray, gray/blue, gray/purple/violet, or even blue)
* Ideal collar = hero collar (with a collar/collar facing seam allowance of ⅜", ¼", or ⅛" depending on preference)
* Ideal collar height = 2" (give or take up to an inch depending on physique)
* Ideal sleeve cuff = 2" (fitting snugly or slightly loose around the wrists)
* Back seam allowance = 1" (give or take a bit depending on physique)
* Uppermost 1" of invisible zipper left free and remainder of collar closed with hook-and-eye closures
* Invisible zipper extends onto collar approximately ½" before being left free
But those are more like guidelines than actual rules. |
