Misc. Observations, part 3 (Hero Collars, part 3)

Now that you've seen that the principal casts of Deep Space Nine and Voyager all had hero collars as the VOY-style uniforms were gradually refined over the years, it is worth noting that there didn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the presence or absence of hero collars amongst the supporting casts or extras over the years (show, era, rank, gender, division, neck size, collar height, etc.).

Some had hero collars:

VOY, 2x14 "Alliances"

VOY, 6x1 "Equinox (part 2)"

VOY, 1x16 "Learning Curve"

VOY, 6x20 "Good Shepherd"

... while others didn't. 

DS9, 4x22 "For the Cause"

VOY, 2x18 "Death Wish"

VOY, 2x24 "Tuvix"

VOY, 3x16 "Blood Fever"

VOY, 7x19 "Q2"

DS9, 4x7 "Starship Down"

VOY, 1x16 "Learning Curve"

VOY, 5x2 "Drone"

VOY, 6x20 "Good Shepherd"

VOY, 2x6 "Twisted"

VOY, 5x26 "Equinox (part 1)"

VOY, 2x26 "Basics (part 1)"

About the most we can deduce is that there were more hero collars amongst undershirts of the supporting cast and extras in the later years of Deep Space Nine and Voyager than the earlier ones, and that the majority of the supporting cast/background undershirts seemed to have standard collars rather than hero collars.
