Misc. Observations, part 9

Several neat tricks were employed to keep the VOY undershirts looking as good as possible on screen while maximizing comfort (or minimizing discomfort) for the wearer.

Sometimes, for instance, the long sleeves were omitted, since they were unlikely to be missed anyway - especially when the characters' wrists were out of frame and/or they were standing.

Also, there was the occasional technique of constructing the VOY undershirt in the form of a "onesie" - that is, with the bottom of the turtleneck-style shirt wrapping around the bottom of the wearer's torso, as evidenced by this screen-used Tuvok undershirt:

The "onesie" technique kept the undershirt from riding up on the wearer and minimized fabric pulling its way out of the jumpsuit's neck opening.

Both the sleeve omissions and "onesie" techniques were employed all the way back to The Wrath of Khan, as evidenced by Kirk's, Saavik's, Uhura's, and Terrell's TWOK undershirts:

Many, many other TWOK-era undershirts appear to have been made without sleeves:

Lastly, it seems that one method of keeping the jumpsuit's neckline nested with the undershirt's was a small piece of hook-and-loop tape ("Velcro") fastened to the two layers:

At present, it's unclear how widely employed this technique was, but it's a good way to keep your necklines looking nice and flush!
